ADHD Diagnostic Assessment
Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is a neurodevelopmental condition that affects both children and adults. It is marked by challenges with attention, hyperactivity, and impulsivity, which can impact daily life and personal growth. With the right understanding and support, individuals with ADHD can develop strategies to navigate these challenges and thrive.
What happens in an ADHD assessment?
Initial Contact
The process begins with an initial inquiry, where you can reach out to discuss your concerns and ask any questions about the assessment. This is an opportunity to determine whether an ADHD evaluation is the right step for you. If you decide to proceed, an appointment will be scheduled.
Pre-Assessment Questionnaires
Before the clinical interview, structured questionnaires will be sent to gain a broader understanding of your symptoms and experiences. These forms help gather insights into how ADHD-related difficulties may be affecting different areas of your life. Input may be gathered from parents, siblings or other family members who knew you during childhood, offering a fuller developmental history. Pre-assessment questionnaires must be returned for review within 48 hours of your assessment date
Clinical Interview
A comprehensive clinical interview is conducted either in person or via video call to explore your personal history, developmental background, and any challenges you may be experiencing. This conversation helps build a holistic understanding of your experiences and how ADHD-related difficulties may be affecting different aspects of your life. The clinical interview takes approximately 90 minutes.
Symptom Evaluation
Using evidence-based assessment tools, your symptoms will be carefully evaluated against established diagnostic criteria. This includes structured questionnaires, self-report measures, and input from individuals who know you well, such as family members or close colleagues.
Diagnosis & Personalised Recommendations
Following the assessment, a detailed report is provided, outlining the findings, diagnosis (if applicable), and tailored recommendations. Whether you receive a diagnosis or not, you will be offered practical strategies, treatment options, and guidance on next steps, including therapy, coaching, workplace adjustments, or lifestyle modifications.
In the case of diagnosis, you will also receive a supporting letter (which can be shared with employers, educational institutes, etc).
**Please note that only a psychiatrist can prescribe medication. I can support you with a referral or signposting to psychiatrists who can prescribe medication following your diagnosis if applicable.**
