Dr Maria Martinez

Chartered Counselling Psychologist

Hello, I’m Dr Maria Martinez, a Chartered Counselling Psychologist dedicated to helping individuals navigate life’s emotional challenges and reconnect with a greater sense of balance, purpose, and authenticity. I believe that therapy offers a space to slow down, make sense of your emotions, and reconnect with yourself. My work focuses on helping people understand the roots of their struggles and create meaningful change through reflection, compassion, and self-awareness. My aim is to help you feel grounded, understood, and supported as you navigate life’s challenges.

About Me

I am a Chartered Member of the British Psychological Society (BPS) and registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC), ensuring that my work adheres to the highest professional and ethical standards. I hold a Doctorate (DPsych) in Counselling Psychology from Regent’s University London, an MSc in Social Cognition from University College London (UCL), and an MA (Hons) in Psychology from The University of Edinburgh.

My clinical experience spans the NHS, leading mental health charities, and private practice. These varied experiences have given me a deep understanding of the complexities of mental health and the different ways people experience and express emotional distress.

Over the years, I have supported individuals navigating anxiety, low mood, self-criticism, perfectionism, trauma, grief, relationship difficulties, and more. Many of my clients describe feeling stuck in familiar emotional patterns - such as overthinking, people-pleasing, or striving to meet impossible standards - that once helped them cope but now leave them feeling depleted. Together, we explore the roots of these patterns and the emotions beneath them, creating space for insight, healing, and self-acceptance.

I welcome individuals from all backgrounds, cultures, races, identities, religions, sexualities, and genders. My practice values diversity and inclusion, offering a respectful and supportive space for anyone seeking therapeutic support. Sessions are available in both English and Spanish.

I aim to provide a warm, safe, and non-judgmental space where you can explore your feelings, understand yourself more deeply, and find new ways of coping with life’s difficulties. My approach is pluralistic and integrative, meaning that I draw from a range of evidence-based therapeutic models to meet your unique needs and goals. Learn More.
